Addison was born under a garden shed to a feral mom. She had a bad upper respiratory infection when we rescued her which has caused her left eye to begin to ulcerate and require a lot of treatment.  Addison tolerates her medication very well. In fact to her, it simply means more attention!!
9/2/09 We are hopeful her left eye will be completely healed within the next few weeks. Her doctor believes her prognosis is excellent for a beautiful and clear eye.

9/13/2009 - After several treatments, including using her own plasma to help heal, Addison's left eye continues to be clouded and will likely remain scarred for the rest of her life. While it is unfortunate that she is not 'picture perfect',she more than compensates for this 'short coming' with the extraordinary love she gives.

You must only consider adopting Addison if you love the sound of purring! She is wonderfully loving, a lap lump, bed cuddler and an loveralll sweet heart. Addison is an attention seeker and will ensure she gets the love she wants.  However, Addison also suffers 'black cat syndrome'. No one is sure why black cats are less likely to be adopted than their fairer furred companions, but the truth is, they are, and so this page was created in hope that a few more fair furred fanciers might consider the alternative to their pale predisposition!  See our TOP 10 Reasons to Adopt a Black Cat page.

More about Addison

Good with Cats, Good with Kids

Special Needs: Addison has recently been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic plasmacytic gingivitis stomatitis or feline gingivostomatitis. This is an autoimmune illness where her body 'over-reacts' to the plaque and bacteria in her mouth causing very bad gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and generalized bleeding and inflammation. Obviously this can affect a cat's overall health as eating can be painful, and often times cats with this illness stop eating and become even more ill from malnutrition. Thankfully we noticed this early in Addison and due to aggressive treatment and close monitoring, she is still able to eat well. We are working very closely with Dr. Palm and his team at Hiawassee Veterinary Clinic to maintain her health and hopefully find the cause of this. At this point in time she will be on steroid therapy for the rest of her life (currently every other day). We are testing her to determine if she has food allergies, but if this proves negative then she will remain on steroids indefinitely. We are currently looking for two things. Firstly donations to help us pay for the medical costs associated with her long term treatment while she remains in foster care and secondly a forever home that can understand her medical needs and is prepared to give her the extra medical attention that she requires. If she remains on prednisolone for the rest of her life, she will require yearly vet visits to test her blood and ensure her liver continues to function normally and she will be susceptible to diabetes, so maintaining a healthy weight and monitoring her regularly for signs of early onset diabetes is a necessity for Addison's forever home. Addison may also require yearly or even half yearly dental cleaning to limit the amount of plaque in her mouth. We have a lot more information regarding this syndrome and what it means to Addison. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
