Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies they go to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Angel Eyes
Angel Eyes was rescued in June of 2010. What a handsome and very sweet boy. He had huge golden eyes and a beautiful black and smokey coat. This kitten (approx 6 months of age) was a complete lover – and what a surprise after the way he had been treated in his short life as a stray.

Angel was a bit sickly and underweight at the time of his rescue which is not all that unusual. Our vet found that he had a heart murmur and what seemed to be an enlarged heart. What he found with x-rays took us all by surprise – Angel had a BB pellet embedded in his lower chest! Not only that, but the x-rays showed a clear path that the pellet had taken. Shot from above, it traveled down through Angel’s spine and lungs, nicking the trachea on the way. No wonder he was in the shape he was in.

Our foster home spent several trips to the vet and long hours nursing Angel Eyes. At one point he seemed to be improving, but there was a constant battle with recurring infections and overall the direction of his health was not good. His foster mom finally had to make the hardest decision one can ever make – to end this poor kitten’s suffering. I am sure everyone feels the way I do and shares in her grief. Rest in Peace Angel Eyes.

Kerri
Kerri was part of a group of kittens that were abandoned at a local petstore. She was initially much quieter than the other kittens in the foster home but came into her own after a few weeks of treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection (URI). At the end, she had been declining for about 2 weeks and we were investigating possible causes with our veterinarians. The best we can tell is that the infection somehow migrated to her spine/brain and caused such severe neurological problems that she just shut down. Fortunately, she slipped slowly into a coma and did not suffer. Her family was with her and giving her comfort right until the end.

We like to remember Kerri the way she was about a month after her rescue. She had improved quite a bit - her energy levels were high and she was a whirlwind of action, chasing toys and playing with the other kittens. When she was feeling good, she had a lot of things to do and couldn't be expected to spend all her time hanging aroud people. When she was under the weather, all she wanted to do was sit in the lap. Smart as a whip, she kept eveyone in line even when she wasn't feeling good.

Kerri was always a real sweetheart with a soft meow and big wide golden eyes. She had very silky black fur with lovely white markings on her face and white paws, as wll as nice white whiskers. Her tail was long and thin, pointy at the end, as opposed to her brother (Kohl) who has a rounded tail.

Sparecat
Sparecat was abandoned by his mother the day he was born. We were able to place him with a nursing mother cat who accepted him as one of her own. Unfortunately, he was fighting an uphill battle and did not survive beyond 10 days of age.

The foster mom writes that she is in mourning and so sorry that little Sparecat died. He was such a fighter and she thought she had gotten him over the hump. But he just had too many things going against him.

Little Sparecat never opened his eyes. And we will never know the exact cause of his death - but he is in a better place with his little buddy (Allstate Pallets - 1). They are buried side by side.

Allstate Pallets - 1
This little kitten did not survive long enough to be given a real name - he is still known by his rescue ID. This is not to say that he was not loved by the people who rescued him but only that they had more important things to do trying to save him than to stop and think of an appropriate name. He was a little fighter, but had been abandoned by the mother cat who was too young to know how to take care of her babies. We will see that she gets spayed so she will not have any more kittens - then she will be allowed to live out her life at the pallet yard where she has a good job as a "mouser."

Lucas
Lucas was a very loved young foster kitten who passed early from this life.
